Movie „Vergiss Meyn nicht“ in the municipal cinema

Time: 7 p.m.
Place: “Kommunales Kino” at the old Wiehre station (“Alter Wiehrebahnhof”, Urachstraße 40)

Hambacher Forst – the focal point of climate policy disputes in Germany in 2018.
Among the people occupying the forest to protest against the mining of brown coal is Steffen Meyn. The film student documented the activists’ struggle against the destruction of nature for two years with a 360° helmet camera. During the police operation in the Hambach Forest – later declared illegal – Steffen Meyn is one of the people who die during the eviction. He falls from a tree and dies. The documentary film by Meyn’s friends and fellow students Fabiana Fragale, Kilian Kuhlendahl and Jens Mühlhoff is based on this footage. The protagonist’s doubts become just as clear as his friendly perseverance and his efforts to find an attitude towards the radicalism of the scene. In addition, the directors conducted interviews with activists for whom the experiences in the “Hambi” have left deep traces. The question is how far activism has to go. And how far it can go.

It is important to us that there is enough space around the film for questions and especially feelings to arise. Therefore, there will be a short introduction and a subsequent film discussion.

The film and discussion are in German.
